AGM & December meeting of ENCC: recruitment needed

The minutes for our November meeting, held by Zoom videoconference and attended by residents, are published on our website on our Minutes & Agendas page and specifically at this link.

We have also published there an agenda for our 2020 AGM, specifically at this link. The agenda for our regular monthly meeting for December which will follow the AGM has not been finalised and will be made available before the meeting.

Since the successful introduction of residents’ ability to attend on line (Zoom) videoconference meetings of ENCC in November, the December meetings will be open to residents, but for security residents must indicate to us by email to that they wish to attend and they will be sent the meeting access codes by email before the meeting, when those are created. Attendees should give their postcode (to confirm ENCC ward residency) and the name that they will appear as in the Zoom meeting – we will not admit anyone we cannot identify from the on line waiting room.

There are a number of vacancies on ENCC and we urgently need to fill at least some of them to spread the workload and give fresh insights. At our AGM we have the opportunity to appoint new councillors for a three year term. The nomination forms for candidates and other documents covering rules and regulations are on our About ENCC page (scroll down to the bottom) and specifically links are here for an editable word doc or here for a PDF versions. They should be sent to the returning officer, Paul Johnson of Midlothian Council’s Communities team (CLL) by Monday November 31st at the latest, at the address (email or postal) indicated on the form. We would appreciate if you can indicate to ENCC that you are standing at our email address above. If you want to get involved with your community through serving on the community council please consider standing – we really do need to bring up the number of members of ENCC. If the number of candidates does not exceed the number of vacancies there will be no election (which is usual) – all candidates will be appointed for 3 year terms. If you can’t make up your mind now we can co-opt residents as full members at any time, but they must stand for election at the subsequent AGM in 2021 (so please indicate an interest).

If you don’t want to be a full member with voting rights there are other ways you can be involved, as an associate member (need not be a resident, so people with special knowledge in areas of interest, e.g. planning, are welcome – wherever they live) or as a resident serving on a subcommittee. Get in touch if any of those are of interest – we can co-opt you (no forms needed).
